Extractions
At Aurora Hills Dental, our primary goal is always to prevent and treat oral health problems before they become severe enough to compromise a patient’s natural teeth. Despite our best efforts, natural teeth sometimes cannot be saved.
Whether they have become weak due to structural issues, infection, injury, or another concern, teeth sometimes need to be extracted to eliminate infection and painful symptoms.
Reasons You Might Need a Tooth Extraction
Several factors can lead to the need for a tooth extraction, including:
- Excessive, irreversible damage and decay
- Severe periodontal disease that has weakened the periodontal ligaments, loosening the tooth
- Teeth that have been cracked or broken beyond repair
- An impacted or incorrectly positioned tooth
- In some cases, to prepare for orthodontic treatment
Dr. Zalesky is available to answer any questions you might have about why your tooth needs to be removed and what you can expect during the extraction process.
Tooth Extraction Services at Aurora Hills Dental
There are two types of tooth extraction procedures, and we are fully equipped to provide both at our dental clinic.
Simple Tooth Extractions
Simple tooth extractions can be performed when the tooth that needs removing is fully intact and strong enough to be pulled without breaking apart below the gum line.
Surgical Tooth Extractions
A surgical tooth extraction might be needed if a tooth is too weak to be pulled, if it is below the gum line or impacted, or if there is another issue complicating the tooth’s removal.
What Kind of Tooth Extraction Do You Need?
To determine the best method for removing your compromised tooth, our dentist first takes diagnostic images, such as digital x-rays, to thoroughly evaluate the tooth’s structure and position below the gum line. He can then determine whether a simple extraction is possible or if a surgical extraction is necessary.
What To Expect When Having a Tooth Extracted
Depending on the type of tooth extraction you are having performed, the extraction process can vary slightly. Dr. Zalesky and our team can talk with you about what to expect and how to prepare before your tooth extraction appointment arrives.
Regardless of the type of extraction at hand, we do everything we can to ensure our patients are always comfortable, relaxed, and pain-free throughout their tooth extraction procedures.
Restorative Dentistry and Tooth-Replacement Options at Aurora Hills Dental
Although it sometimes is not possible to save a natural tooth, we do have a variety of restorative dentistry treatments designed to replace missing teeth, including dental implants, dental bridges, All-On-4 dentures, full and partial traditional dentures, and implant-supported dentures.
The tooth replacement treatment option that’s right for you depends upon your current oral health, the number of teeth you’re missing, and your personal treatment preferences.
