Pinhole Surgical Technique
What Is the Pinhole Surgical Technique?
The Pinhole Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive surgical procedure designed to correct gum recession. It requires no scalpels, no sutures, and no gum grafting. Instead, the Pinhole Surgical Technique uses a special needle-like tool to make small pin-sized holes in the gum tissues. Our dentist then uses specially designed tools to loosen and adjust the patient’s existing gum tissue, repositioning it over the exposed, recessed areas of their teeth. Additionally, strips of collagen might be strategically placed to help hold the repositioned gum tissue in place and accelerate healing and the generation of new, healthy gum tissue.Part of the Chao Pinhole Academy

What Does the Pinhole Surgical Technique Treat?
The Pinhole Surgical Technique is designed to correct gum recession due to gum disease, bruxism, the normal aging process, or other reasons.
Does the Pinhole Surgical Technique Treat Gum Disease?
Although the Pinhole Surgical Technique can correct gum recession as a symptom of periodontal (gum) disease, it cannot treat gum disease.
For a patient to be a candidate for gum rejuvenation using the Pinhole Surgical Technique, they must have healthy gum tissues with no signs of bacterial infection.
The Benefits of the Pinhole Surgical Technique
The Pinhole Surgical Technique offers many benefits over gum grafting, the alternative and more traditional treatment for severely recessed gum tissues.
Since it is minimally invasive, requires no cutting with scalpels, and no sewing with sutures, patients experience minimal pain, swelling, and redness following treatment using this technique.
Additionally, so much collagen and blood flow are naturally present in gum tissues that the healing process is incredibly swift, with patients returning to normal within 24 to 48 hours of the procedure.
Another benefit of the Pinhole Surgical Technique over gum grafting is that a patient’s entire gum line can be repositioned during a single treatment session. Alternatively, gum grafting only offers correction along the gum line of one or two teeth per session, which can last for a couple of hours. Treatments do not resume until the patient’s initial grafts and gum graft sourcing locations have healed completely.
